Gabriel Garcia was raised in Puerto Rico and migrated to Jersey City with his family in 1974. His skilled background in construction management immediately brought him a lot of opportunities to grow and expand, operating both in NJ and NYC. He gained notoriety among some well-known artists doing electrical work. He met some of his notable clients contracting for Paramount Pictures and Warner Brothers Entertainment.
Who we are
He saw an opportunity to support his family with one of his long-time leisure pastimes, selling cigars. Gabriel & his son Markus opened this business in 2004 with just 20 boxes of cigars, later growing to a multitude of variations. Gabriel utilized his construction experience to make enhancements to the shop throughout the years, adding a cigar lounge, humidified lockers, updates the storefront and always a fresh paint job.
Gabriel is well known for his passion, bringing the community together. His infamous ‘Salsa on the Grove’ events bring thousands to downtown JC, where he hosts a large stage, multiple live bands showcasing Salsa and Merengue music, and a DJ that keeps the crowd dancing! He is also recognized for his support for local causes.
Gabriel is excited to attend upcoming conventions to showcase the latest in his shop. He has attended hundreds to ensure the shop is properly stocked with both timeless cigars and new editions. He enjoys revisiting the vendors who travel from around the world, including Honduras, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic.
Gabriel, Markus & his family are deeply engaged in supporting the Historic Downtown Jersey City area and fostering positive change within the community. Sky Tobacco Company has been in business for 21+ years and will continue to grow.
